The Lady’s Reception
As we mentioned at the end of the story, Mother Teresa of St. Augustine (Madeleine-Claudine Ledoine) was not able to afford a dowry to enter Carmel (i.e. become a Carmelite nun). Somehow, a Mother Theresa of St. Augustine, who was prioress of St. Denis, heard about Madeleine and convinced her nephew’s wife to provide Madeleine’s dowry. This Mother Theresa of St. Augustine was the daughter of King Louis XV, and her nephew’s wife was Marie Antoinette.
